Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Glacier Outdoor Center!

Cross-country ski season is here and it is time to grab the dogs and hit the trails.

We have expanded our trails this year—check out our daily trail updates.

We have 3 dog skijoring events planned for 2009:

Jan 10th & 11th Glacier Outdoor Center Open House and West Glacier Dog Skijor Open

Registration welcome until 11am on the 10th and time trial racing starts at noon.  Race finals begin at 11am on Sunday the 11th.  FREE trail use and half price rentals; chili by the Belton Chalet; warm drinks and treats; great gear sales!

Feb 21st (& 22nd) Dog Skijoring Race

Registration until noon day 1 and racing starts at 1pm (day 2 racing starts at 11am).

March 14th (& 15th) Spring Thaw Dog Skijor Race

Registration until noon day 1 and racing starts at 1pm (day 2 racing starts at 11am).

The more the merrier; this year is going to be fun!  Advanced registration by phone is recommended but not required.

You will notice that we have a second day penciled in for race two and three; because, we hope that our races become more popular, in this, our second year, and more participants will join as the season progresses.  The start time for day one allows for participants to drive from regional locations, and the start for day two is early to allow for a safe return trip.  In the event that our participant list does not reach numbers to make the second day necessary we will complete the entire race on day one.  Entrance fees will be $35 per race weekend to include both events and the use of the dog equipment if needed.

For 2009 our race format will involve each race team to run each event 3 times.  Teams will run both the Doggie Cross and the Doggie Drag Race twice to establish a time average that will place the team in an event division and then a third run for the final.  Each event will have 2 divisions.  There will be prizes for the first three finishing teams for the Doggie Cross in each division and a prize for the first place winner of each heat of the Doggie Drag Race.

Check out our web site for information about our dog and ski friendly log cabin accommodations (nothing like a warm hot tub after a day of racing) at www.glacierraftco.com . AND, The Belton Chalet will be serving dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, including live music on Saturdays (great entertainment after the race); and they will be serving brunch on Sundays until 3pm–  make a West Glacier Winter Weekend out of your skijoring races!

Comments With this fresh snow we were able to get the Ginsu Groomer out and really get the trails ready to ski.  We have set track for Classic Nordic , as well as a wide path of Croduroy for skate skiing.

With all this fresh snow our trails are skiable!    We groomed for the first time this morning, and the trail system here in West Glacier is looking good.    It is still coming down hard this afternoon, so this weekend looks like a great time to come out to West Glacier, and Glacier National Park for some winter time fun!
